New Delhi-bred and Mumbai-based musician and producer Harshit Misra aka Hashbass has carved out a remarkable space for himself as one of India’s premier bass players, making him a prominent name in the Indian independent music industry. Having studied at and been a part of Musicians’ Institute’s faculty in Los Angeles (where he was awarded as the Outstanding Bass Student in 2014), Hashbass has since gone on to develop with American artist Timbaland’s global creator community called Beatclub.

 

In 2023, Hashbass put together a specially curated live set called the House of Hashbass at the first edition of Lollapalooza India. He’s also performed at other major music festivals such as Bacardi NH7 Weekender and Magnetic Fields.

 

Hashbass’ eclectic taste in music from his love for Yellowjackets and J Dilla as well as the structured sounds of Gospel and Indian Carnatic music juxtaposed with electronica, funk and jazz can be heard ringing through the records he’s made such as his 2022 EPs, Fruits and Arcade, which are packed with juicy moments featuring synths, grooves, tons of exciting bass parts and vocal samples.

 

For the 2022 Bollywood film Bhediya, Hashbass contributed to the movie’s soundtrack on “Apna Bana Le” which has been sung by Arijit Singh and produced by Sachin-Jigar as well as on “Jungle Mein Kaand” that features Vishal Dadlani and Sukhwinder Singh. That same year, Hashbass also worked on the Indian Premier League’s cricket team Chennai Super Kings’ anthem with fellow artists Arivu and Enkore. In 2023, Hashbass arranged the song “Holi Re Rasiya” and sat in as a session musician on the track for the first season of Coke Studio Bharat.

 

The musician has also picked up a number of gigs over the years, with quite a few artists opting to work with Hashbass. Those include the likes of Candice Glover (American Idol Winner), Wayne Brady (Grammy nominee), Shubha Mudgal, Shilpa Rao, Suman Sridhar, Benny Dayal, Karsh Kale, Sid Sriram, Prabh Deep, Suraj Mani and The Tattva Trip, Dub Sharma, Bollyjazz, Red Mawkin, DCF Shapes, Sava Boyadzhiev, The Bartender, Poco Loco, Jordan Johnson, Ted Piltzecker, Mark Alban Lotz, Saby Singh, Kamakshi Khanna, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Prateek Kuhad and more.
